Thanksgiving – my new tradition

Coming from a country that did not celebrate Thanksgiving and not knowing anyhing about this tradition, I quickly learned that the underlying message is just to be thankful. Be thankful not only for the people, life and work you have but also the experiences you have now, in the past and hopefully have in the future.

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what has happened in the year and since it is so close to the end of the year, it is another time to ponder and plan for the upcoming year.

Whilst, this was the first time in many years I have spent Thanksgiving alone, and being a vegetarian, I decided I would come up with my own menu for food and not have the usual mash potatoes and green bean casserole with the many sides. I decided to make my homemade nachos and salsa sauce with apples and salad, Potato Bake with spring onions, a Pesto Pasta and Russian teacakes for dessert. Below are a few pictures from my delightful meal.

  1. I live in a country that doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. But in recent years we hear so much about the importance of gratitude that probably I should inform myself more about this special day and maybe celebrate it next year. I’m not sure if I’d prepare special meals if I would be alone on a celebration day. Congratulations to you that you did it anyway!
